0:00 Memberships, sponsorships, affiliate
Here's a surprising truth for many mid-sized channels. Their biggest income often isn't YouTube ads. It's sponsorships, followed by memberships and affiliate links. Brands pay for targeted, trusted audiences, and fans pay to support creators they love. In this lesson, you'll learn how to design sustainable memberships, find and price sponsorships, craft integrations viewers don't skip, use YouTube BrandConnect and the Shopping affiliate program where available, disclose correctly in every market, and build a media kit and quote.
0:34 Fan funding
Let's start with fan funding for eligible channels. Channel memberships are monthly paid tiers with perks like badges, emojis, members-only posts, videos or live streams. Super Chat and Super Stickers are highlighted paid messages during live streams and premieres. Super Thanks are one-off appreciation payments on videos. Here's the key idea for memberships: design perks that are sustainable and valuable. Early access, behind the scenes, a monthly Q and A, templates, shout-outs. Avoid perks that consume more time than they earn, and follow YouTube's policies on perks, like no prohibited content or unfair giveaways.
1:15 Finding sponsors
Now sponsorships. Where do you find them? Brands already advertising in your niche, so look at other creators' sponsors. Tools and products you genuinely use. YouTube BrandConnect, which appears as Creator Partnerships in YouTube Studio's Earn section, for eligible Partner Program creators aged eighteen and over in supported regions. Its Open Call feature lets creators respond to brand briefs with videos that brands may run as partnership ads. Agencies and creator marketplaces. And a clear business inquiries email on your channel page. Think of sponsorship like being a trusted shopkeeper. The brands want shelf space in a shop whose customers trust the owner's recommendations.
2:00 Pricing sponsorships
Pricing sponsorships. There's no single rate card. Rates depend on expected views, niche, audience geography and purchasing power, format, usage rights, exclusivity and production effort. Common approaches: CPM-based, a price per thousand expected views of the video. Flat fee per integration or dedicated video. Hybrid, a lower flat fee plus a performance bonus per sign-up or sale. And add-ons, like usage rights if the brand reuses your content in ads, exclusivity, extra Shorts, or a link in a pinned comment. Always use your median views per video over recent uploads, not your single best video. And put everything in a written agreement.
2:44 Example 1: UK photography quote
A simple example. A UK photography channel's median views over the last ten long-form videos is forty thousand. The creator and sponsor agree an illustrative CPM of twenty pounds for an integration. Forty times twenty is eight hundred pounds. The sponsor also wants to run a thirty-second cut of the integration as an ad for thirty days, so the creator adds a usage fee. And a Shorts cut-down is an add-on. The quote shows each line separately, so the sponsor sees exactly what they're buying. Nobody argues about the viral video that got three hundred thousand views, because it isn't in the calculation.
3:29 Integration craft
Now integration craft. The best integrations feel natural and useful. Choose sponsors relevant to your audience, and decline those that aren't. Place the integration after the hook has delivered value. Show the product in use, and explain honestly who it's for. Keep it concise, with a clear offer or link. And never make claims you can't support, because the sponsor's claims become your claims to your audience. A realistic scenario, illustrative. A UK photography creator declines a high-paying sponsorship from an unrelated gambling app, protecting audience trust and avoiding restricted-category issues, and instead signs two relevant sponsors: a photo-editing app and a camera retailer.
4:14 Disclosure
Disclosure is mandatory. Tick YouTube's includes paid promotion box when a video contains sponsorships, product placement or endorsements, and YouTube shows a disclosure message. Also disclose verbally and in the description, in clear language: this video is sponsored by. And follow local rules. In the US, the FTC's Endorsement Guides, and its 2024 rule banning fake reviews and testimonials. In the UK, ASA and CAP guidance, and the CMA's powers under the DMCC Act 2024. In the UAE, the Media Council's advertiser permit, mandatory since February first, 2026, for promotional content published from the UAE. In Saudi Arabia, the Mawthooq license. And in Pakistan, the Competition Commission's guidance on deceptive endorsements.
5:02 Affiliate
Now affiliate marketing. Affiliate links earn a commission when viewers buy through your link. Programs exist from large retailers, software companies and marketplaces. YouTube's own Shopping affiliate program lets eligible Partner Program creators tag products in videos, Shorts and live streams. It's rolling out market by market. It reached the UK in August 2026, joining markets such as the US, India, Indonesia and Brazil. At our last review, it wasn't listed for Pakistan, the UAE or Saudi Arabia, so check the Help Center for your country. Best practices: recommend products you've used, disclose clearly, put links in the description and pinned comment, mention them verbally, and track with unique links per video.
5:51 Watch me: media kit + quote
Watch me build the one-page media kit from the lesson. At the top, my promise: I help new freelancers in Pakistan land international clients. Audience: eighteen to thirty, Pakistan first, then the UAE and the UK, Urdu and English. Median views per long-form video over the last ten: twenty-two thousand. Median Short engaged views: fifteen thousand. Unique viewers over twenty-eight days, and returning viewers at thirty-one percent. Formats: sixty to ninety second integration, dedicated video, Shorts, live mention. Past partners, with permission, and one result each. And a business email. Then I draft a quote: integration fee equals median views over a thousand, times the agreed CPM, plus a Shorts cut-down, plus usage rights for thirty days, with fifty percent on signing and fifty on publish.
6:46 Report + mistakes
After a sponsored video goes live, report to the sponsor at agreed points, like seven and thirty days. Views, audience retention around the integration, link clicks or code uses where you can see them, and notable comments. Honest reporting, including when results are modest, builds long-term relationships and repeat bookings. The common mistakes: pricing from your best video instead of median views. No written contract. Undisclosed sponsorships or affiliate links. Accepting irrelevant or harmful sponsors. Membership perks you can't sustain. And assuming YouTube Shopping or BrandConnect is available in your country without checking.
7:26 Recap
Recap. Memberships, Super Chat and Super Thanks let fans support you directly, so design sustainable perks. Find sponsors in your niche and through BrandConnect where available. Price on median views, with written contracts and separate add-ons. Integrate after value, honestly. Disclose with YouTube's paid promotion setting, verbally and in the description, and follow local rules, including the UAE permit and Saudi Mawthooq license. And use affiliate links you trust, checking Shopping affiliate availability in your country.
7:59 Try this now
Try this now. Create your one-page media kit using median views, audience data and the formats you offer. Draft a quote structure with separate add-ons. Then write a fifteen-second disclosure script you can use in your next sponsored integration, and check which of BrandConnect and the Shopping affiliate program are available in your country. Next lesson: policies, copyright and responsible creation.
Fan funding
For eligible channels, fan-funding features let viewers support you directly:
- Channel memberships: monthly paid tiers with perks such as badges, emojis, members-only posts, videos or live streams.
- Super Chat and Super Stickers: highlighted paid messages during live streams and premieres.
- Super Thanks: one-off appreciation payments on videos.
Design membership perks that are sustainable and valuable: early access, behind-the-scenes content, monthly Q&As, templates, shout-outs. Avoid perks that consume more time than they earn. Follow YouTube's policies on membership perks (for example, perks must not include prohibited content or unfair giveaways).
Sponsorships
Brand sponsorships are often the largest income source for mid-sized creators, because brands value targeted, trusted audiences.
Finding sponsors:
- Brands already advertising in your niche (look at other creators' sponsors).
- Tools and products you genuinely use.
- YouTube BrandConnect (Creator Partnerships in YouTube Studio's Earn section, for eligible YPP creators aged 18+ in supported regions). Its Open Call feature lets eligible creators respond to brand briefs with videos that brands may run as partnership ads.
- Agencies and creator marketplaces.
- A clear "Business inquiries" email on your channel page.
A media kit should include: channel promise and audience description, key metrics (views per video, unique viewers, audience geography and age, engagement), past partnerships with results where permitted, formats offered (integration, dedicated video, Shorts, live), and rates or "rates on request".
Pricing sponsorships
There is no single rate card. Rates depend on expected views, niche, audience geography and purchasing power, format, usage rights, exclusivity and production effort. Common approaches:
CPM-based: Price per 1,000 expected views of the video (use your median views, not your best)
Flat fee: Fixed price per integration or dedicated video
Hybrid: Lower flat fee + performance bonus (e.g. per sign-up or sale)
Add-ons: Usage rights (brand reuses your content in ads), exclusivity, extra Shorts, link in pinned commentUse your median views per video over recent uploads when estimating, and put everything in a written agreement: deliverables, timelines, review rounds, usage rights, exclusivity, payment terms and cancellation terms.
Integration craft
The best integrations feel natural and useful:
- Choose sponsors relevant to your audience; decline those that are not.
- Place the integration after the hook has delivered value.
- Show the product in use; explain honestly who it is for.
- Keep it concise; include a clear offer or link.
- Never make claims you cannot support — the sponsor's claims become your claims to your audience.
Disclosure is mandatory
- Tick YouTube's "includes paid promotion" box when a video contains sponsorships, product placement or endorsements. YouTube then displays a disclosure message.
- Also disclose verbally and in the description in clear language ("This video is sponsored by…").
- Follow local advertising rules: the FTC's Endorsement Guides (and its 2024 rule banning fake reviews and testimonials) in the US; ASA/CAP guidance and the CMA's powers under the DMCC Act 2024 in the UK; the UAE Media Council's advertiser permit, mandatory since February 1, 2026 for promotional content published from the UAE; the Mawthooq license in Saudi Arabia; and the Competition Commission of Pakistan's guidance on deceptive endorsements. Rules change, so check them for your country and your audience's countries.
Affiliate marketing
Affiliate links earn a commission when viewers buy through your link. Programs exist from large retailers, software companies and marketplaces. The YouTube Shopping affiliate program lets eligible YPP creators tag products in videos, Shorts and live streams; it is rolling out market by market (it reached the UK in August 2026, joining markets such as the US, India, Indonesia and Brazil). At our last review it was not listed for Pakistan, the UAE or Saudi Arabia, so check the Help Center for your country.
Best practices:
- Recommend products you have used or tested.
- Disclose clearly that links are affiliate links and you may earn a commission.
- Put links in the description and pinned comment; mention them verbally.
- Create videos where recommendations are natural: reviews, comparisons, "tools I use", tutorials.
- Track performance with program dashboards and unique links per video.
Worked example: a photography channel in the UK
Memberships: Two tiers — early access + monthly Q&A; monthly preset pack
Sponsorships: Two per month with a photo-editing app and a camera retailer (relevant, disclosed)
Affiliate: Camera gear links in reviews and "what's in my bag" videos (disclosed)
Own product: Beginner photography course promoted in end screens and pinned commentsThe creator declines a sponsorship from an unrelated gambling app despite a high fee, protecting audience trust (and avoiding restricted-category advertising issues).

Reporting results to sponsors
After a sponsored video goes live, send the sponsor a short report at an agreed point (for example after 7 and 30 days): views, audience retention around the integration, link clicks or code uses where you can see them, and notable comments. Honest reporting — including when results are modest — builds long-term relationships and repeat bookings.

- Price sponsorships on median views, niche and deliverables, with written contracts.
- Disclose sponsorships via YouTube's paid promotion setting, verbally and in the description.
