# Finding and enrolling in courses

## The Academy in one sentence

The Optimize All Academy is a free catalogue of practical courses in AI, marketing, SEO, sales, business, design, data and the platform itself. **Every lesson and lecture transcript can be read without an account.** You enrol (also free) when you want your progress saved, the final assessment and a verifiable certificate. This lesson shows how to find the right course or learning path and how enrolment works.

## The Academy hub: `/learn`

The hub page is built to get you to a course fast:

- **Search.** The big search box at the top ("What do you want to learn?") searches the whole catalogue and jumps you to the results.
- **Explore by subject.** Tiles for each subject, with a course count. Clicking one filters the catalogue.
- **Learning paths.** A preview of paths such as *AI-Powered Marketer* or *SEO & AI Search*, with a link to **All learning paths**.
- **Just published.** The newest courses.
- **All courses.** The full catalogue with filters (below).

## Filtering the catalogue

The **All courses** catalogue has subject chips across the top (*All courses* plus one chip per subject, each with a count) and four controls:

| Control | Options |
|---|---|
| **Search** | Course titles, skills or badges |
| **Level** | All levels, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced |
| **Duration** | Any length, up to 1 hour, up to 2 hours, up to 4 hours |
| **Sort by** | Featured, Newest, Title A–Z, Shortest first, Level |

Your filters are stored in the page address, so a filtered view can be bookmarked or shared with a colleague and opens exactly the same way.

## Learning paths

A **learning path** orders several courses from first principles to advanced practice. The paths page (`/learn/paths`) shows each path's courses and the badges you can collect along the way. On a path's page you see its courses in order and, once you are signed in, your progress: how many courses you have completed and which one is next. The main button reads *Start with …* or *Continue: …* and takes you to the next course. Every course in a path ends with its own verifiable certificate.

## Reading a course page

Before you enrol, the course page tells you everything you need to decide:

- **The hero:** subject, title, subtitle and facts such as level, total time, the number of lessons and modules, minutes of video lectures, *Certificate + LinkedIn badge* and **Updated** with the month the course was last reviewed.
- **About this course**, **What you'll be able to do**, **Tools you'll use** (when the course teaches specific tools) and **Skills**.
- **Syllabus:** modules you can expand to see every lesson, its length and whether it has a video lecture.
- **Your certificate:** a preview with the badge name and the criteria to earn it.
- **Final assessment:** how many questions (drawn from a larger pool), the time limit, the pass mark and how many attempts you get per 24 hours.
- **Recommended first:** any prerequisite courses.

On a phone, once you scroll past the top buttons, a compact bar with the same actions stays at the bottom of the screen.

## Enrolling: what actually happens

The main button is **Enrol for free — start learning**.

- **Signed in with a learner account:** you are enrolled immediately and the first unfinished lesson opens in your portal (*My learning*). Enrolling twice is harmless.
- **Signed out:** you are sent to create an account (or sign in with *I have an account*). After you verify and sign in, you come back to the course, the enrolment completes automatically and lesson 1 opens.
- **Just curious?** **Preview lesson 1** opens the first lesson without enrolling. You can read everything and try the knowledge checks, but nothing is saved.

Enrolment belongs to learner (participant) accounts. If you are signed in with a staff account, the course page tells you so; staff can read every lesson but not enrol.

## My learning: your dashboard

Inside the portal, **Learning** opens **My learning**, which shows:

- Four stats: **Courses in progress**, **Courses completed**, **Certificates** and **Time learned**.
- A **Continue where you left off** card with your next lesson and a **Resume** button (or **Take the assessment** when every lesson is done).
- **In progress**, **Certificates**, your **Learning paths**, **Recommended for you** and **Completed**.
- Buttons for **Learning paths** and **Browse all courses**. The catalogue inside the portal shows your progress on each course card.

Your portal home page also has a small *Learning* panel with the same continue card.

## A worked example

*Illustrative.* Fatima runs social media for a boutique hotel in Muscat and wants to use AI in her work.

1. On `/learn` she searches *AI marketing*, filters **Level: Beginner** and **Duration: up to 4 hours**.
2. She opens a course, checks *What you'll be able to do* and the *Updated* month, and expands the syllabus to see the lessons.
3. She notices it belongs to the *AI-Powered Marketer* path, opens the path and sees the order of the courses.
4. She clicks **Enrol for free — start learning**, creates her account, verifies, and lands in lesson 1.
5. A week later, *My learning* shows the course at 40% with a **Resume** button.

## Hands-on

1. Open `/learn` and try one search from the hint, such as *GA4* or *negotiation*.
2. In **All courses**, choose a subject chip, set **Level** and **Duration**, and sort by **Shortest first**. Copy the page address and open it in a new tab to see the same view.
3. Open **All learning paths**, pick one that matches your goals and note which course comes first.
4. Open a course page and read the **Final assessment** card: questions, minutes, pass mark and attempts per 24 hours.
5. Click **Preview lesson 1** and answer one knowledge check.
6. When you are ready, click **Enrol for free — start learning** and confirm that *My learning* shows the course.

## Common mistakes

- **Enrolling in ten courses at once.** Progress spreads thin. Pick one course or one path and finish it.
- **Ignoring *Recommended first*.** Prerequisites exist because later lessons build on them.
- **Reading as a guest and expecting progress to be saved.** Only enrolled learners have saved progress and exam access.
- **Skipping the *Updated* date** on fast-moving subjects. Prefer recently reviewed courses.

## Lecture transcript

### Finding and enrolling in courses

Imagine walking into a huge library where every book is free, and you can take a certificate home when you finish one. Exciting, but also a little overwhelming. Where do you even start? In this lecture you'll learn to find the right course in seconds, use learning paths to plan a route, read a course page so you know exactly what you're signing up for, and enrol with one click, even if you don't have an account yet.

### Why it matters

Why does this matter? Because your time is the real cost. The courses are free, but choosing the wrong one, or starting five at once, wastes hours. A good choice has three parts: the right subject, the right level, and the right length for the time you actually have. The Academy gives you tools for all three. You just need to know where they are.

### A streaming app for skills

Here's the mental model. Think of the Academy like a streaming app for skills. The hub page is the home screen, with search, subject tiles and what's new. The catalogue is the browse screen, with filters. Learning paths are like a series: episodes in the right order. And a course page is the show's detail page, where you read the description, the episode list and the ratings before pressing play. Enrolling is pressing play. It's free, and it saves your place.

### Example 1: Jake's one-hour filter

Let's start simple. Jake, a sales rep in Chicago, has one hour on Friday afternoons. He opens the Academy and scrolls to All courses. He taps the Sales subject chip. He sets Level to Beginner and Duration to up to one hour. He sorts by shortest first. Two courses appear. Here's a neat detail: his filters are stored in the page address. So he copies it and sends it to his manager, who opens exactly the same view.

### Example 2: Fatima plans a path (illustrative)

Now a realistic scenario, with illustrative details. Fatima runs social media for a boutique hotel in Muscat. She wants to use AI in her marketing within the next three months. Instead of guessing, she opens All learning paths and picks the AI-Powered Marketer path. The path page lists its courses in order and shows the badges she can collect. She opens the first course and reads it properly. What you'll be able to do. The syllabus, module by module. The Updated month, which matters in a subject that changes fast. And the final assessment card: the number of questions, the time limit, the pass mark and the attempts per twenty-four hours. Now she knows the commitment before she starts.

### Watch me: enrolling while signed out

Watch me do it. I'm on a course page and I'm signed out. At the top I see three buttons: Enrol for free, start learning. I have an account. And Preview lesson one. I click Preview lesson one first. The whole lesson is readable, and I can try the knowledge check, but nothing is saved. Back on the course page, I click Enrol for free. I'm taken to create an account. After I verify my email and sign in, I'm brought straight back to this course, enrolled automatically, and lesson one opens in my portal. If I'd already been signed in, the button would have enrolled me instantly and opened the first unfinished lesson.

### My learning

Once you're enrolled, your home base is My learning, under Learning in the portal. At the top, four stats: courses in progress, courses completed, certificates and time learned. Then a card called continue where you left off, with a Resume button. When you finish every lesson, that button changes to Take the assessment. Below that: in progress, certificates, your learning paths, recommended courses and completed courses. One detail: enrolment is for learner accounts. If you're signed in as staff, the course page tells you that you can read everything but not enrol.

### Zoom in: the course page

Let's zoom in on the course page, because two minutes there saves hours later. Scroll past the top and you'll find about this course, and what you'll be able to do. Read the outcomes like a checklist: would you be happy if you could do these things in a month? Then tools you'll use and skills. Then the syllabus, where you can expand each module and see every lesson, its length, and whether it has a video lecture. In the side column, your certificate shows the badge you'll earn and the criteria to earn it. And recommended first lists prerequisites. If there are any, start there.

### Quick check: which course first?

Quick check. Nadia in Dubai finds two courses on the same topic. Course A was updated last month and is intermediate. Course B was updated much earlier and is beginner. She's never studied the topic before. Which should she pick? Pause. It depends on the subject, but the level usually comes first: a beginner should start at beginner level, then check the updated date. On fast-moving subjects like AI tools, a recently reviewed course matters more. If both matter, look for a learning path, which puts the beginner and intermediate courses in order for her.

### Measure it

How do you measure success with the Academy? Not by how many courses you enrol in. By how many you finish. Here's a simple target, and it's illustrative: one course completed per month, with the certificate earned. Watch the courses completed and certificates numbers on My learning. If courses in progress keeps growing while completed stays flat, pause new enrolments and finish what you started. And use the time learned stat as a gentle signal of whether your weekly learning habit is actually happening.

### Inside the portal

A quick word on the portal catalogue. Inside your portal, Browse all courses opens the same catalogue with the same filters, but every course card also shows your progress if you're enrolled. And on your portal home page, a small learning panel shows your continue card and a few recommended courses. So you never have to go back to the public site to find your place. Everything is one click from your portal navigation.

### Common mistakes

Common mistakes. Enrolling in ten courses at once and finishing none. Skipping the recommended first box, when prerequisites exist because later lessons build on them. Reading as a guest and expecting your progress to be saved. And ignoring the updated month on fast-moving subjects like AI. Pick one course or one path, check it's current, and finish it.

### Recap and try this now

Recap. The Academy hub gives you search, subjects, paths and the full catalogue. Filters live in the page address, so views are shareable. Paths put courses in the right order. A course page tells you outcomes, syllabus, updated month and exam rules before you commit. Enrolling is free and brings you straight into lesson one. Try this now: open the catalogue, set a subject, level and length that fit your week, and enrol in one course. Next, we'll look inside a lesson: the lecture player, transcripts and knowledge checks.

## Key takeaways

- Every lesson is readable without an account; enrol for free to save progress, take the final assessment and earn a certificate.
- Catalogue filters (subject, level, duration, sort, search) live in the page address, so views are shareable.
- Learning paths order courses from beginner to advanced and show your progress and next course.
- Enrolling while signed out brings you back to the course after sign-up and opens lesson 1 automatically.
- My learning shows your stats, a Continue card, courses in progress, certificates, paths and recommendations.

## Try it

Filter the catalogue to a subject, level and length that fit your week, copy the page address to reuse later, and enrol in one course or the first course of a learning path.
