## About this course

You do not need a design degree to make work that looks professional — you need a small set of principles applied consistently. This course teaches the fundamentals working designers use every day: visual hierarchy, contrast, alignment and spacing, grids and composition, typography, color theory and accessible contrast under WCAG 2.2, and choosing and licensing imagery.

Everything is applied to the formats creators and small teams actually ship: social posts, carousels, stories, ads and video thumbnails. You will build a reusable Figma setup with grids, spacing and color variables, text styles and components, lock brand templates in Canva, run design critiques with ready-made checklists, and export with a per-platform specs sheet. Every lesson includes a narrated lecture with worked examples, a watch-me-do-it walkthrough and a practical exercise.

## What you will learn

- Build a clear visual hierarchy and run a structured design critique on any layout
- Lay out posts, ads and thumbnails on a grid with a spacing scale and platform safe zones
- Choose, pair, license and size typefaces for legibility on mobile screens
- Create color palettes with light/dark variables and check contrast against WCAG 2.2
- Select, license and treat images, and design honest, compliant ads and thumbnails
- Use templates, components, styles and variables in Canva and Figma without generic results
- Export files in the right format, size and color space for each platform

## Course content

### Seeing like a designer

Learn the core principles that make a design readable at a glance: hierarchy, contrast, alignment, proximity, repetition and whitespace.

- [Visual hierarchy: controlling what people see first](https://optimizeall.com/learn/graphic-design-fundamentals/visual-hierarchy): 8 min
- [Contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity](https://optimizeall.com/learn/graphic-design-fundamentals/contrast-repetition-alignment-proximity): 8 min
- [Gestalt, eye flow and guiding the viewer](https://optimizeall.com/learn/graphic-design-fundamentals/gestalt-and-eye-flow): 7 min

### Layout, grids and composition

Structure designs with grids, margins and safe zones, compose balanced images, and adapt layouts across aspect ratios.

- [Grids, margins and a spacing system](https://optimizeall.com/learn/graphic-design-fundamentals/grids-margins-and-spacing): 7 min

### Typography that reads on every screen

Understand type anatomy and classification, pair typefaces, build a type scale, and keep text legible on small mobile screens.

- [Type anatomy, classification and choosing typefaces](https://optimizeall.com/learn/graphic-design-fundamentals/type-anatomy-and-choosing-typefaces): 8 min

- [Legibility on mobile, video and thumbnails](https://optimizeall.com/learn/graphic-design-fundamentals/legibility-on-mobile): 7 min

### Color theory and accessible contrast

Build purposeful palettes, use color to create hierarchy and mood, and make sure text and graphics meet accessible contrast standards.

- [Color theory essentials](https://optimizeall.com/learn/graphic-design-fundamentals/colour-theory-essentials): 8 min
